A group of researchers has identified a common link between “Peralt Syndrome”, a rare genetic disease that causes hearing loss in both men and women, and premature menopause or infertility in women.
Researchers at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom could make a difference in the diagnosis and treatment of people with Peralt Syndrome.
The results of this study showed eight different genes that can cause this condition.
“The study began 10 years ago at St. Mary’s Hospital, when a local family had proletarian syndrome,” said lead researcher Bill Newman. “After some genetic studies, doctors identified a new gene and changes in that gene that caused the disease.”
