US intelligence agencies: The origin of the Covid-19 may never be known

US intelligence agencies say they may never be able to identify the origin of Covid 19, but have concluded that the virus was not created as a biological weapon.

The US Office of National Intelligence said in its latest assessment of the origin of the corona virus that the virus was transmitted from animal to human and that the virus leaked from the laboratory are both plausible hypotheses for how the virus spread.

But there is not enough information to reach a definitive conclusion in this regard.

China has criticized the report.

The findings come in a declassified report, an update to a 90-day survey released by the administration of US President Joe Biden in August (two months ago).

The report said the information community disagreed on the most likely source of the virus. Four “low-confidence” intelligence agencies have assessed that the virus originated from an infected animal or a related virus.

But one intelligence agency said it was “relatively certain” that the first human infection was most likely the result of a laboratory accident that may have involved testing or touching an animal at the Institute of Virology in Wuhan, China.

The report also states that Chinese authorities were unaware of the virus before the initial outbreak of Covid 19 in Wuhan in late 2019 (two years ago). But China continues to be an obstacle to research and resistance to information sharing.

Chinese officials have linked early cases of Quid 19 to a seafood market in Wuhan City, leading scientists to believe that the virus was originally transmitted from animals to humans.

But earlier this year, US media reports showed growing evidence that the virus could have originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, possibly through an accidental leak from the laboratory.

In May of this year, Joe Biden ordered US intelligence officials to investigate the origins of the Corona virus, including a theory of laboratory leakage rejected by China.

“The US move to rely on its own intelligence apparatus instead of scientists to trace the origin of the Quid is a purely political farce,” the Chinese embassy said in a statement to Reuters in response to the US intelligence report.

“We support and continue to work actively with science-based efforts to trace the origins of the coronavirus. But we strongly oppose any attempt to politicize this issue,” the Chinese embassy said in a statement.

About 240 million people have been infected with Covid so far, as well as the deaths of more than 4.9 million people worldwide.
